The Pennsylvania State University’s Department of Nutritional Sciences invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to participate in an NIH-funded project entitled ‘Interplay between host innate and adaptive immunity, gut microbiota and inflammatory bowel diseases.’ This is an opportunity for an emerging scholar to engage with a productive team of investigators who use high throughput sequencing, metabolomics, and flow cytometry to examine microbiotal contribution to disease pathogenesis in genetically engineered mice. Highly motivated candidates with a strong background in Immunology and extensive expertise in flow cytometry, Microbiology/Molecular Biology, and manuscript preparation are encouraged to apply. Primary responsibilities include performing experiments with mice, contributing to maintenance of the mouse colony, managing and analyzing data, preparing manuscripts and presentations, and participating in interdisciplinary research groups. The fellow will have ample opportunities to publish as well as access to exceptional resources to facilitate his/her independent research.
Requirements: A Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Immunology, or Microbiology with a proven history of peer-reviewed publications in Inflammatory Bowel Disease research is absolutely required. Experience in research techniques such as immunological analyses in animal models, ELISA, Western blot, flow cytometry, and histopathological analyses are highly desired. Successful candidates will have excellent written and oral communication skills, competitive scientific credentials, strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
The appointment will be for one year, with likely funding for at least one more year depending on productivity. The position provides salary and benefits consistent with those for university postdoctoral fellows.
